In his role as Group Manager Strategic Development, Ben is responsible for setting the organisational strategic direction for Avsec including identifying strategic and operational technology developments from around the world and implementing them to fit a New Zealand context. Ben also holds accountability for Avsec capital expenditure budget and in-service technical capabilities including the upgrade and refresh of these via new technology projects and programmes.
Ben’s previous role was as Manager, Safety Investigation Unit at Civil Aviation Authority, a role he held from August 2012 until October 2014. In this role he was responsible for aircraft crash and safety investigations, specifically focusing on those that had a systemic impact on the NZ aviation system. Prior to this he served as an Engineering Officer in frontline operational, strategic headquarters and programme and project management positions with the RAF and the RNZAF.
Ben has a Master’s of Science (Merit) specialising in Engineering Management, from Portsmouth University and a Batchelor of Science (1st Class Honours) specialising in Engineering Management, from Lincoln University, UK. Additionally, Ben has undertaken numerous technical courses within UK and NZ and is an Incorporated Engineer via IET.
