Biography

Gunter Heinrich has worked at Fraport AG for 21 years. During the first 3 years, he served as sales engineer for Fraport’s airside IT-Systems. In 2000, he began introducing slot management at FRA. He developed the first commercially successful slot management software designed for the specific needs of airport operators. In cooperation with the German Airport Coordination, a worldwide first process was developed and introduced to verify flight intentions before the day of operation.

He is secretary of the Coordination Committee, and initiated the Slot Performance Monitoring Committee at FRA. Furthermore, he gives lectures at two different German universities.

Gunter Heinrich is in charge of the airport operators interests regarding the development and implementation of the national and international slot regime. As chairman of the Slot Allocation Taskforce at ACI Europe and chairman of ACI World’s Expert Group on Slots, he has gained long time experience in the cooperation with other airports, as well as in dealing with national and supranational institutions and all relevant stakeholder organizations.

On behalf of ACI Europe, he co-chaired the working group “Gate-to-Gate” of the European Observatory on Airport Capacity (consultancy forum of the European Commission), whose results formed the basis of the second revision of the European Slot Regulation.

Gunter Heinrich is actually chairing as well the Management Group of the ongoing strategic review of IATA’s Worldwide Slot Guidelines, which was agreed by IATA and ACI World in the course of the 39th session of the ICAO Assembly in 2016.

He holds a diploma in Aeronautics and Astronautics and has high level experience in principles and regulations of airport capacity declaration and allocation, in operational airport slot management, project management, as well as sales and marketing.
